Circa 1950s. A large oak-framed hooded Orkney chair, known in the local dialect as a ‘Heided Stul’ of traditional form with oat straw tied with marram grass, the hooded section with the facings finished in twine, the solid oak quarter-sawn seat, and classic Orkney arms supported on simple uprights with visible round head brass screws on the side, the front with a full-size oak-framed drawer (for Bible or Whisky!) with a large knob turn handle, the peg joints of the legs visibly showing, resting on slightly splayed tapering legs at the back and front.

Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
