Circa 1890. A Japanese Meiji period tansu chest in the second Sendai Dansu style, made of keyaki wood, the large rectangular chest top with wonderful patination with visible dovetails and metal strapping, the front with a variety of combinations of full-length drawers of various sizes with smaller ones on the right, with a small cupboard with a bank of drawers behind it, all with very elaborate iron work; to the sides are a pair of lifting handles and a large metal bracket for carrying the chest with a wooden beam, retaining three original keys, all in excellent condition.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
