Circa 1870. A large two-part solid camphorwood military secretaire chest, the top in well figured camphorwood with a moulded fore-edge and rounded corners, with a removable architecture shaped back with a carved shell in the center with scribed carving on each side, the front with an unusual combination of various shaped drawers, all with flush brass military handles, beneath the long drawer in the top there is a double drawer which opens to reveal a folding out secretaire with various compartments including a writing surfaces, between each of the drawers there is an elegant ribbed section giving the chest an elegant look, the bottom section with two full length graduating drawers, beneath the drawers there is a moulding that continues round the side, and all resting on four squat bun feet, all with excellent colour and patination, comes in two parts.
