For sale is a stunning, authentic late 19th-century (circa 1870–1900) French Louis XV Rococo style mirrored armoire. Crafted from walnut solid wood & book match veneers with beautiful grain patterns, this substantial piece features an ornately hand-carved cresting pediment with classic floral and shell motifs, elegant cabriole legs, and serpentine lower detailing.
This wardrobe offers fantastic modern versatility and carries a wonderful piece of history with it. Inside the left door, you can still see the original 19th-century craftsman’s pencil signature reading "Maurice"—a charming testament to its hand-made heritage.
Key Features & Condition:
* Original Working Key: Includes its original key and fully functional brass espagnolette locking mechanism which we had have serviced (as previously jammed) so this is now fully working (a rare find!).
* Flexible Interior: Fitted with the original internal vertical tracking rails and 2 solid wooden shelves. A previous owner added a handy hanging rail to the underside of one shelf, making it perfect for both hanging clothes and folded storage. Note the internal depth is 40cm so adult wide jacket hangers fit on a slight angle. We have added a removable bottom shelf (so can be used for lower storage, this is to protect the base board which was exposed previously & was not suitable for storage directly onto).
* Bevelled Mirror Doors: Stunning, original heavy bevelled glass mirrors that add incredible depth and light to any room.
* Flat-Pack Construction: Built using traditional French "knock-down" modular construction. The entire wardrobe dismantles completely into flat panels, making it incredibly easy to transport and manoeuvre up tight staircases.
* Authentic Vintage Condition: Beautifully preserved with minor wear consistent with its 130+ year age. Please see videos & photos. Please note it is missing its original bottom drawer box and two of the upper shelves, the brass door hinges are replacements from previous owner. These have been factored into the fair pricing.
