Beautifully proportioned early Victorian mahogany secretaire bookcase circa 1845 with figured mahogany veneers to the solid mahogany drawer fronts & door frames. Elegant turned bun feet and striking ebonised turned drawer handles. Feet, handles and locks are all original. Adjustable shelves to the glazed bookcase top section. The top secretaire drawer pulls out, then by pressing the brass thumb catch on either side the drawer front drops down and is supported on brass hinges. A series of small drawers and pigeon holes are revealed together with a black leather and gilt tooled writing desk. The small drawers have their original turned ivory handles. A stunning and practical piece of furniture.
