A first quality rosewood & marquetry inlaid piece from around 1880-1900, with an ivorine label to the rear for A J Whitehead, 'Complete House Furnishers' of Chatham High Street in Kent, with exceptionally figured rosewood veneer throughout and panelled back, on a moulded plinth & bracket feet plus casters, having a bevel-glazed cabinet door, opening on a sheet music compartment of four velvet-covered shelves, the door with half-round glazing beads, marquetry inlaid cartouche to top & bottom, of musical instruments & botanical swirls, together with a twisted brass drop-handle plus working lock & key, the cabinet top with double string inlay and a circular central medallion, marquetry inlaid with a cross & botanical sprigs, the cabinet sides also double-strung, extended by shaped support brackets with strung leading edges, carrying a serpentine fronted shelf and enclosing a bevel-edged mirror back and surmounted by an arched pediment with matching inlaid cartouche, this exceptional music cabinet will impress in the most elegantly-furnished of reception rooms, fully-deserving of the admiring attention it will undoubtedly attract.
