antique sheraton (c 1810-1820) cuban mahogany and satinwood pembroke

This is a hard to find Sheraton ( c 1810-1820) Pembroke table crafted in England during the first quarter of the 19th Century. It is a superb table, using the most incredible solid Cuban mahogany boards finished in very fine satinwood. With some of the most incredible wood selections, all the three leaves boasting a perfect glowing Cuban mahogany surfaces. The top and leaves are fully solid single mahogany boards, with no veneering or joining. Each leaf is shaped in the Sheraton style flawlessly planed by hand until the surface was perfectly smooth and French polished with breathtaking results. The surface shimmers and the deep reds of the mahogany glow through with absolute brilliance.

This is a wonderful table with a delicate line inlay in satinwood throughout including the legs. The leaves are perfectly notched with their original hinge hardware and rotate smoothly up to be supported by solid mahogany wings supports. When open the table is a real treat to the eye with its beautiful shape and uniformity.There is a single very deep drawer in oak with two brass pull out hardware. The drawer is hand dovetailed, front and back, with hand planed and chamfered bottom.The table stands firmly on tapered legs finely inlaid with satinwood, terminating in brass barrel casters. Little wings swing out from either side of the table to lift the leaves, each sliding in place over the round ruled joint.This is a very fine piece with wonderful lines, great proportions and outstanding condition. The table is a fully original work of art that captures the very essence and perfection of the Sheraton design. It would lend itself comfortably as a card table or as an attractive sofa table, hall table, or side table.Condition Report: This stunning example of Sheraton design dates back to circa 1810-1820 and is 200 years old! The table shows original building material and construction methods. Refinished in a fine french polished finish, preserving a well formed patina beneath it shows some minor dents on the body of the table like on the left hand in side of the drawer and bottom right of the drawer. Top is reset with some modern screws (a few are perhaps original, but all are shiny). Brass caster feet are entirely original and in excellent shape The rear end of the drawer shows some wear in the wood and this is normal for something this old. All of the above is believed to be a testimony of the age and use of this very fine antique piece of furniture.
