When the late James Crossan bought a gelding at the 1964 Ballina Foal Fair in Co Mayo, little did he know that his purchase would become one of the most popular show jumpers ever to represent Britain.

Penwood Forge Mill was hugely popular during the time of his career and remains one of Britain’s best loved Show Jumpers. His early successes included winning the Grand Prix in Ostend and coming second in the Nations Cup competitions at Ostend, Rotterdam and Geneva, both in 1971. In the following year, he came second in the Nations Cup in Rome, before achieving a first in London.
He then went on to win back-to-back Nations Cups in 1977 and 1978.
Incredibly, Penwood Forge Mill also won the European Championships, the King George V Gold Cup and the Horse and Hounds Cup within six days!

Nizefela was easily identified by his famous 'kick back' over a fence – a sure sign that he was on form! In the jumping world he was known as the cornerstone of the British show jumping team and described by former BSJA Chairman Colonel Harry Llewellyn as a horse who was as "steady as a rock" and "jumps big and clean". The bay gelding, bred in Lincolnshire, was owned & ridden by the great Wilfred White
