pair of late 19thc early 20thc chinese 7 star jian sword - swords asian chinese knife

A good late 19thc early 20thc pair of Chinese jian short swords, not the shuang Jian type or mandarin duck that fit onto one scabbard these 2 both have thier own scabbards.

Often seen in use by females and males.The blades are double edged and semi sharp, both have the copper inlay seven star design on the blades, the blades of both do have a slight flex but are very rigid.The hilts made from horn, likely buffalo, and the mounts are cast in bronze, the tangs are through tangs on both swords and are peened over at the pommel ends of each sword.The scabbards are made from wood with ray skin covering and bronze mounts, sadly one chape end mount is missing hence the low price for these 2 - pair.I know little else about then except that having done a lot of research on the type it appears they were likely civilian swords made for the Chinese around 1900 to 1920s.
size of both in scabbards is 66.5cm, out each sword is 58cm, blades are 43.5cm to the guard from tip, the mid section of the diamond ridge in the middle of each blade is 4.2 mm.We are antiques dealers so do like to haggle so please do make an offer, and please do look at our other items as many more will be added here soon.
