A rare old 19thc Chin dha from upper north east Burma Chin state.
The blade is wide and thick spined with hollow forged central fuller, it has a thick spine at the hilt end of the 41.5cm blade at 9.7mm thick, at the tip it is 1.4mm thick, the width at its widest point is 36.2mm, there are no edge niks or other damage and it is still very sharp.
The hilt - handle is made from hardwood with heavy yellow metal alloy - brass mounts, these are thick compared to many dha from Burma - Myanmar and very well made, likely teak wood that has been lacquered first with red lacquer and then black over the top, this appears to be traditional to the Chin tribal region of Burma and that particular Haka tribe, there are other types in yellow and red lacquer that may or may not be attributed to the Haka tribe as but there are many branches of Chin so the colour may be representative of each tribe, I have also seen one in the past with black and green lacquer.

The scabbard is made from hardwood with the same yellow alloy - brass mounts and the same traditional 2 layer lacquer, there is no damage and all mounts are not loose or moving, unusual for dha swords as over time the wood shrinks on many and they often become loose.

A good colonial Brit Burma bring back and seldom seen as good for these type Dha, often they are damaged but this one is in perfect condition other than wear due to use and age.

Overall size in scabbard is 65.5cm, out of scabbard 64.1cm
The dha is quite heavy for size compared to others, a good solid working fighting dha and a rare example.

I will be listing other Chin items from the same region and date.
