Circa 1900, tall mahogany chest of drawers by Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh after a design by Sir Robert Lorimer. The solid mahogany rectangular top with its ogee moulded edge above the frieze with matching flame mahogany both left and right. Beneath this there is a configuration of 2 short drawers over a further 5 drawers. The drawers all have matching flame mahogany veneers on the front, stylish cast brass swan neck handles with open fretwork back plates in the form of flower petals and stylish pommels. Some of the drawers are stamped on the top right and the drawers all have mahogany liners and original Langebear & Co of Birmingham locks. Beneath the bottom drawer there is a moulded edge and a square frieze on the front and the sides, and the whole piece stands on stylish squat Whytock & Reid/Lorimer feet. The chest is extremely top quality, clean and sturdy.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
