Circa 1820, pair of Dutch marquetry armchairs, the raised back with a stylish splat and elongated section. The splat and the uprights and all the facing areas of the chair are smothered in foliate marquetry depicting flowers, urns and birds. The shaped back, as it tapers down, has two large stylish arms held in position by a single shaped upright. There are two drop-in seat pads. The apron at the side is covered in marquetry, as is the apron at the front with its slightly dipped section. The chair stands on elegant, carved cabriole legs at the front, with carved knees and the back legs are turned and slightly out-swept. Very stylish, functional chairs.
