pair of sculptures in gilded wood h 85 cm 19th century

We are pleased to present this splendid pair of sculptures in carved and gilded wood of the nineteenth century 85 cm high. 

With an octagonal base with inverted capital, the two sculptures are presented as half cherubs and half tritons. The lower part of the pisciform body has scales and a braided shape resting on the base with an algae belt that divides the upper part. The cherub's body is in an upright position with its arms towards the sky as if to support something, the angelic wings are spread and the head slightly turned upwards. The carving is a real beauty: the scales of the lower part, the feathers of the wings, the hair with a laurel wreath on the nape seem almost real to the touch of the hand.
