Sunderland Bridge Rummers were Commemoratives of the opening of the Sunderland Bridge in the late 18th century. These were made as souvenirs for and following the opening of the bridge in 1796, but continued to be made for the next 30-35 years - ie, while the bridge was still a famous tourist attraction (other wonders of the industrial age then overtook it). Sea captains and wealthy traders would buy them; one with initials like this might be commissioned before the outward voyage and collected on the sailor's safe return.
