Samuel Alcock: Despite the fact that the firm of Alcock was very large by comparison with many other Staffordshire factories, their wide range of porcelains have only in recent years attracted the serious collector.

Samuel Alcock owned the Hill English Pottery at Burlsem as well as another factory at Colbridge. The name is more readily associated with red earthenwares with black decoration in the style of early Grecian wares.

In 1883 the factory employed more than 400 workers and their 20 kilns equalled those in use by Minton.

Alcock displayed his wares at the 1851 Great Exhibition showing a collection of Dinner Services, Tea Sets, Spill Vases, Single Figures and Groups.
