Mid Victorian exhibition quality coromandel and brass inlaid travelling vanity box/toilet box. The top has a brass heraldic shield in the centre engraved with ‘TACE’ (Latin for ‘silent’), and beneath this a tree. The lid opens to reveal a wonderful fitted interior. The hinges and holding arms are engraved. The inside of the lid has a locking device, and when released there is a mirror and a stationery section. There is a Glasgow makers label on the inside of the lid. The first section is fitted out with various bottles and containers, all with silver lids. These are stamped with a London mark with the date 1871, and makers mark of TJW (Thomas Jones Watson). There is a small section in the middle for a manicure set – the scissors have been changed and there is one piece missing. There is a Brahma lock at the front which is also engraved. The front section is hinged and opens to reveal two further drawers with military style engraved flush handles. The top one opens to show a leather interior, and the drawer below has a lid and has various compartments for jewellery. The whole piece is in superb condition and is very stylish.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
