    Antique Large Doulton Stoneware Vase With Flowering Blackberry by Eliza Simmance c1910

    Beautifully and unusually decorated large Doulton Stoneware Art Nouveau vase by Eliza Simmance c1910. Large baluster-form body with concave neck and flared rim. Decoration of flowering blackberry created by a mix of scraffito and impasto techniques giving a beautifully textured design. Complimented above and below by a mottled glaze in tonal colours. Impressed Royal Doulton Lambeth mark used 1902-1922. Signed with Eliza Simmance's monogram (E within an S) together with assistant's monograms: hk for Ethel Hawkins, H for Alice M Herapath and k (unknown). The vases measure 42 cm in height.
    This vase is in excellent original condition commensurate with age. No crazing, chips, cracks or restoration and with exceptionally minor signs of age. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.

     
    Eliza Simmance, one of the earliest artist engaged, worked at Doulton Lambeth as an Artist and Designer between 1873 and 1928. She quickly became recognised as an original and versatile designer - winning many high awards at international exhibitions. Her work remains highly collectible. Ethel Hawkins worked at Doulton from 1897 to 1915. She worked as a senior assistant with Eliza Simmance. Alice M Herapath worked at Doultons as a senior assistant during the last quarter of the 19th century and early 20th century.
