Keith Murray Wedgwood Jug and six Tankards set. This set has the "KM" mark on the base indicating it is c.1940.

This set is a stunning example of Keith Murray's design - simple and understated. Very functional and classic. A great entry level piece for collectors. There is one tiny chip on the spout of the jug shown in the pictures.

Jug: 8 1/2 ins (22 cms) high by 8 ins (20cms) wide to handle. Capacity 3 pints.Tankard: 5 ins (12.5cms) high by 5 ins (12.5 cms) wide. Capacity 1 pint each.

Keith Murray was the chief designer at Wedgwood from the 1930s onward, designing pottery which was executed in a clean and restrained style with decoration often limited to deeply incised lines or smooth steps in the shape. The whole piece is usually one colour without applied decoration. From the beginning Murray's stature as a designer was recognised as every piece bore his signature above the Wedgwood mark. In 1936 Keith Murray was appointed architect in charge of designing the new Wedgwood factory at Barlaston, Staffordshire.
