Text outlines traditional ritual events to be followed from cradle to grave. A mixture of Daoist and indigeneous beliefs. Scripted by learned Shaman priest.
The script is a mixture of Chinese and that used by Yao
people. Notes written in black ink. Hand-stitched
binding. Written with brushes and on mulberry
paper.
This text refers to magical animals and high priests. It also refers to boats which serve as a symbol for the Hmong mass exodus from China due to persecution in the late 17th to 18th centuries. At that time, they settled in the mountainous regions of Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Laos, Burma, Thailand).
Text from mid 20th century.
