Circa 1880, good satinwood and inlaid George III style cabinet bookcase. The elegant classical cornice above 3 large glazed doors with the original glass. Between each door are slightly raised pilasters with simple capitals on the top and inlaid panels running up the facing. Inside are several adjustable shelves. There is a small flat section beneath this with a moulded edge, over a configuration of 3 drawers in the centre and cupboards left and right. The cupboards have panelled doors with a large classical inlaid urn in the centre. The drawers are inlaid with an urn and swags with various foliage, mistletoe and acorns, and cast brass open fretwork handles. Between the doors again there are pilasters which are similar to the top but of a smaller scale. The whole piece stands on an enclosed plinth. Very stylish, clean bookcase.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
