Circa 1810, good set of George III mahogany commode steps. Each of the treads has a leather insert. The top one is hinged and opens to reveal a small uninterrupted space. The facings between the steps are very stylish flame mahogany panels with ebony inlay. The ebony inlay is rectangular with canted corner. The second step pulls forward and is again hinged, opening to reveal an uninterrupted space which would have held a commode originally. Beneath the bottom step there is a simple mahogany apron and the whole piece stands on 4 squat bun turned feet, typical for the age. It would make a nice side table or lamp table.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
