Circa 1880, very stylish French style oval satinwood and carved giltwood occasional table. The top is quarter veneered with satinwood crossbanding and a carved and gilded fore edge. Beneath this there is a deep apron with flower heads and small raised arches almost in the style of elongated windows which have been routered out of the apron. Beneath this there is a stylish and simple moulding which is again gilded. The whole table stands on four elegant tapering fluted legs. The elongated legs start at the top with a carved, gilded capital. Towards the end there is a small square block with flower heads on each side and from these there are four elegant raised reeded stretchers. As they rise and fall again there is a small satinwood centre dish of the same form as the top, which gives the table stability. Beneath this the leg continues to a turned section with carved leaves at the top and tapers down to a very fine and elegant raised toe. The table is clean, sturdy and very stylish.
