A fine quality Chinese export teabowl and saucer, very thinly potted and translucent, moulded into petals and incised with fine lines following the shape of the petals, and dating from the Yongzheng or early Qianlong period c1740. After its arrival in Europe both the teabowl and saucer were decorated, probably in Holland, with gilt lines following the petal outlines, and with butterflies.
