Circa 1920, Carters mahogany jockey scales with a small plaque ‘by Appointment to H.M the King, Carters, Invalid & Surgical Furniture Manufacturers, New Cavendish Street, London.’ The rectangular shaped scales have a raised seat with a rexine cover and shaped steel uprights. On the left hand side of the uprights is the scales itself with an adjustable arm for weighing in stones and lbs. The scales can weigh up to 20 stone. The weighing mechanism is contained in a sarcophagus shaped casing and is a mixture of brass and polished steel. Below the top there is the apron, which has the makers mark and a small beaded edge. The whole piece stands on 4 square and slightly tapering legs. Unusual piece in excellent condition.
