2 x Antique Shorter & Son Staffordshire Tea Side plates. Floral Cottage Garden Majolica Design 1920s

No signs of use, no scratches, chips or cracks. Some surface crazing on close inspection.

    Measures: Diameter 18.5cm

Decorative plates, likely from their line of ornamental or novelty earthenware, for which Shorter & Son became well-known from the 1920s onwards.

Founded by Arthur Shorter around 1872, the company evolved into Shorter & Son Ltd. by 1900. They produced a wide range of pottery, including majolica wares in their early period and later specializing in novelty items and decorative earthenware. It was acquired by S. Fielding & Co. Ltd (owners of Crown Devon) in 1963, and production continued under their management until John B. Shorter's retirement in 1972, with the factory finally closing in 1974.

    Very collectable pieces.

    Barbara Harris

I am an avid collector of individual, unusual and interesting pieces of vintage and antique collectibles, sourced from auctions and antique events. I am particularly interested in rare figurines, Italian ceramics and glass, studio pottery, small pieces of furniture, brass instruments, cosmetic compacts, beaded purses etc. Favourite makers Minton, Beswick, Poole, Coalport, Wedgwood and Royal Doulton amongst many others. I do not have a website, but sell mainly through Etsy and eBay. I currently have a wide range of over 300 items for sale, with many ‘followers’ and regular customers. I live in a 16th Century cottage in the beautiful Wye Valley – perfect surroundings to cultivate my interest in all things vintage and antique. I am happy to supply more detailed photographs of the items for sale or to source ‘wanted’ pieces.
