Hudson & Co is a long established and ongoing manufacturer of whistles under the ACME name. Holding several patents, in 1884 Hudson created a pea whistle to help policemen with their alerts, as rattles were not able to produce enough noise. A demonstration at Scotland Yard gained the company its first contract.
