Circa 1780, good urn shaped George III mahogany and inlaid cutlery box/knife box. The classical shaped urn is in the Adams style with an acorn finial top. The segmented sections are divided by various chequered inlays. The top lifts up and inside there is the centre stem which holds the lid in position. There are 2 expanding rods, left and right which prevent the lid from collapsing in on itself. Inside there are 5 different levels with cut out apertures for holding the cutlery. Each of these is in mahogany with an inlaid section separating it from the next section. At the base of the urn there is a curved and dished bezel and a large raised flat section again with inlay. The whole piece finishes on squat ogee bracket feet. The urn has excellent colour and is very stylish.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
