French Third Republic Republican Guard Model 1874 Shako By Barrau Paris With 'Paris Arms' Helmet Plate.
The French Third Republic was France from 1870, when the Second French Empire collapsed, to 1940, when France's defeat by Nazi Germany led to the Vichy France Government. Vichy was replaced by the French Fourth Republic. This is an original French Third Republic, Republican Guard Model 1874 Shako. It has a dark blue cloth over a hard body with red cloth tape chevrons on either side and around the crown, accented with gilt lace. It has a black patent leather crown and holed metal ventilation inserts. It has a patent brim with brass reinforced rim, brass chin chain with Grenadier ignited grenade bosses.
