A Sappers and Miners bayonet also known as the Lancaster and the 1855 pattern bayonet. When the sappers and miners became the Royal Engineers in 1957 this bayonet is sometimes referred to as the Engineers bayonet. After the engineers carbine was removed from service the bayonet moved over to the medical corps as their official sidearm. This bayonet is marked as such on the grip. V.(possibly for volunteer )over R.A.M.C. Blade is stamped 04 and various other stampings. There is no scabbard but the blade is very good. the hilt has a bit of filler along the side about 2cms long and less than 1cm wide but thisis hardly if at all visible and displays well.
