antique sterling silver champagne / wine cooler – sheffield 1918, gilt finish, heraldic crest, 504g

Antique English Sterling Silver Champagne / Wine Cooler
    Sheffield, England – 1918 (George V Period)

This impressive antique champagne / wine cooler is crafted from solid sterling silver (925) and was hallmarked in Sheffield in 1918, during the reign of King George V.

The piece features a classic and elegant form with a scalloped rim, twin side handles, and a stable circular base. The exterior is beautifully decorated with a finely engraved heraldic coat of arms, depicting a shield supported by two lions, topped by a crowned crest and a mythological bird motif, symbolising loyalty, protection, and family unity.

The exterior surface is finished in original fire-gilding (vermeil), a luxury technique commonly used in high-quality English silverware of the period. This is an authentic historical feature and adds to both the aesthetic and collectible value of the piece.
