Fantastic antique longcase Fully restored clock Notes on the clockmaker Samuel Whalley, clockmaker; married Mary Shallcross in 1733. Died 16 June 1744. The couple had a son, Samuel, who was admitted to school in 1750. This Samuel became a watch maker in Manchester, as did his son Elegant looking longcase clock circa 1740 eight day longcase clock which strikes each hour on a bell . The lovely well made case made of oak with the long narrow shaped top trunk door, with mahogany banding and star lozenge is a great feature .The hood with blind fretwork and nice turned columns under a nice caddy top. The clock standing 87.5 inches high with a width of 22 inches at the widest part this is the cornice on the hood and the trunk width only 14 inches make this a very elegant looking clock. The 8 day movement and dial has recently had a full strip down cleaned and oiled and new gut lines the date and moon feature in good working order the case been restored to bring it back to its former glory. All is in good working order and ready to display in the home and requires no further restoration . The fantastic 31cm square brass dial with silvered chapter ring seconds dial and engraved silvered name plaque with the name S Whalley Manchester engraved on it together nice period hands. Complete with 2 weights pendulum and winding crank key. All in all a lovely period Longcase clock which would grace any home. Please study the photos as these form part of the description.
