vintage silver plated monteith caviar & vodka set cooler 20th c

This is a gorgeous Vintage silver plated Monteith caviar set with a caviar dish and cover in the centreand eight vodka shot glasses around it, dating from the late 20th Century.

It has decorative sturgeon handles with another sturgeon adorning the lid of the caviar dish, the rim is in the classical Monteith style.The spacious interior allows you to fill the bowl with plenty of crushed ice to keep the glasses and caviar chilled.The quality and craftsmanship are superb.It is truly magnificent and will attract the maximum amount of attention from all of the guests at your next party.

Monteiths are of a similar design to punch bowls. They were conceived in Englandas a ‘variation on a theme'. Allegedly they were designed by a gentleman calledMonteith, who was renowned for wearing a scalloped coat.Monteiths were originally made with a shaped or notched upper rim, (of similardesign to their namesake's coat). This emarginated rim allowed a punch ladle,tall glasses and a lemon strainer to be held by the bowl. Later this became aremovable 'crown', allowing the bowl to be used as a punch bowl.
