Antique Pages from a 19th Century Thai Folding Book

This 19th-century folding book is written in the Cambodian Khmer script that was used in central Thailand for Buddhist scriptures.

The production of illustrated folding books is considered one of Thailand’s great cultural achievements. Produced for Buddhist monasteries as an act of merit, they often contained religious texts read at ceremonies such as the ordination of monks or funerals. They were also used for moral teaching, as is the case with this text.

This is made of mulberry bark and has nine pages of illustrations which are about marital infidelity and, presumably, to teach about this topic.
