M.M. GROUP. 317124 DVR. F.J.BEAUMONT. 1/1 KENT HY. BY. R.G.A. TF. Born Gillingham, Kent. May 14th, 1892. Died Nov 1972. Military Medal Gazetted 6/7/17. Fred received his M.M. for rescuing a wounded officer from no man's land. A Captain Neame. A prominent family {NEAME} in the Faversham area which is the home of the Shepherd Neame Brewery. We do not know which member of the family Fred rescued, but Captain Phillip Neame was present at the battle of the Somme in 1916. This officer had previously been awarded the V.C. as a Lieutenant earlier in the war, and had later won an Olympic Gold Medal, the only man ever to have received both awards.
