Greyhound with Ball in Bronze by Pierre-Jules Mène (1810-1879)

This delightful greyhound has been captured in a playful pose by the sculptor Pierre-Jules Mène, one of the foremost members of the school of French 'Animalier' Sculptors and a specialist of smaller bronze pieces. He is best known as one of the finest and most prolific animal sculptors of all time. The piece retains a lovely highlighted aged patina. The dog's ball rests on the decorated base that has a moulded edge and is signed P J Mène. All in very good condition with only a minor loss of the tip of the dog's tail (please see photos). Being hard to detect, this does not take away from the overall beauty of the piece. A piece of exceptional craftmanship. Height: 10 cm
