A nice quality Chinese Kraak dish, boldly decorated in underglaze blue of a deep tone, and dating from the late Ming period c 1620. The centre of the dish is decorated with a large grasshopper seated on a rock above water, surrounded by flowers and with swirling clouds above. The rim of the dish is moulded into panels decorated with flowers and precious objects separated by panels of simple 'jewels'. The back of the dish is simply decorated with panels containing further jewels. Unusually, the centre of base of the dish has two underglaze blue circles. Diameter 21cm (8.3")
