georgian yew – satinwood- mahogany single section tea caddy. c1790

Highly collectable and sought after late 1700’s single section tea caddy that has done well to survive in such condition. The caddy is veneered to all exterior surfaces with yew, flame mahogany and satinwood that sports an unspoilt patina. Nice use of twin colour edging and roundels to provide interest and contrast. Aside from a small degree of loss to the edging all inlays and veneer are in superb condition and all is original. The turned knob to the lid, the escutcheon and the hinges are all original. The lock has been replaced by a previous owner. Key for decorative purposes only. The tea storage area features the remains of the original foil lining. The lid is veneered in the same manner as the exterior and features what is quite possibly the original finely turned wooden knob in perfect condition. The lid has slightly curved, as is often the case, but this does not prevent the lid closing as it should and there is little to no ‘wobble’…if anything it adds to the integrity of the item. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
