Circa 1820, exhibition quality George IV mahogany sarcophagus tea caddy. The wonderful flame mahogany top has carved flowers and fruits in the centre and a beaded fore edge. This opens to reveal a fitted interior of three lidded sections, each framed in a tropical hardwood and with stylish flush knob handles in the centre. The lids lift off to show the original zinc lined interior. On the front of the caddy is a small mother of pearl escutcheon in the form of a heraldic shield. At the sides are large ring handles held in position by small brackets which have carving similar to the knobs inside. At the base the beaded moulding is repeated and there is a very unusual apron of arches all the way around.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
