Circa 1760. A large mahogany Dowry chest on stand. The rectangular top with great colour and patination, simple caddy fore-edge and a wonderfully ribbed fore edge with a cast brass lifting handle in the form of an axe head drop, beneath this a brass escutcheon. The front of the chest is in figured mahogany with 4 pairs of engraved straps to the front and sides, with a pair of cast brass lifting handles with solid back plates on the gables, the lid is hinged and opens to reveal and uninterrupted interior with a single removable shelf, the entire carcass inside is in mahogany. The bottom has a lovely moulded edge, simple frieze, further beading, the chest stands on four square legs with panels on the front, chamfered on the inside and finishing on a moulded block toe.
