Circa 1870, very stylish French mantel clock of diminutive proportions. The clock is surmounted by a bronze-winged cherub standing on an ormolu plinth. Beneath this is a wonderful pink marble casing, which has been carved and shaped. At the top, there is a raised section with a stylish beading on three sides. On the front section there is a bouquet with ribbons and flowers, and beneath this a stylish cast bezel containing bevelled edge convex glass. The hand painted enamel face has Arabic numerals and two gilt open fretwork hands. It has Hamilton and Inches’ name on the top (who would have been the retailors) and Paris Britain beneath. At the back, there is a single ormolu door which opens to reveal the movement and the pattern number of 1-1-3-0-1, and it says ‘French Make’. Beneath all this, the clock stands on four elegant, turned, fluted ormolu feet. The clock is neat sized, very pretty, with lovely patination on the bronze and the clock itself.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
