Circa 1880, French mahogany Empire style mirror. The architectural pediment top has a wonderful cast ormolu mounted roundel in for the form of a flower head in the centre. Beneath this there is a flame mahogany panel with a mythical cast ormolu head in the centre – perhaps of Bacchus – and foliate casting each side with open fretwork of acanthus leaves and various other flowers. The mirror itself has a raised arch and is held in place by a stylish brass bezel. Left and right there are half round pilasters with capitals at the top and the same at the base. The mirror has been replaced and is in perfect condition. The mahogany has a wonderful colour and patination.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
