    early 20th century pyrography tankard

An early 20th century, dated 1917, spreading cylindrical tankard, decorated in pyrography gnomes and barley inscribed 'with hops and barley we'll ne'er find fault'. It has a hinge cover with a motto on the lid 'honor alit artes' (honor sustains art), within the crest for Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, England.

There are 2 nibbles to the lid, which are only really visible when the lid is open. These don't really detract from what is a quality and very unusual tankard.
