A Chinese export cream jug and cover dating from the Qianlong period. The jug and cover, undecorated when imported from China in the mid Eighteenth Century, have been attractively painted with a butterfly and floral sprays in London, possibly in the workshops of James Giles. Height 12.8cm (5")
The jug and London decoration both Qianlong c 1750-60
The jug is in very good condition, with a small and shallow chip near the rim (see 4th image where this is pointed out), but no other damage and no restoration. The lip has been given a brown dressing, and it is possible that this has covered a shallow chip - it is difficult to be certain. The cover has been broken in half and neatly restored. The overspraying to the lid is now yellowing.
