This offering is for a handsome, quality solid silver match holder and and integral tray. The photographs give good illustration of both its condition and style. It came to auction from a family who live just outside York, and who have long established connections with the auctioneer. Rather than a match holder, the purchaser could use it as a depository for change and business cards.
Chester silver is particularly collectable, as the Chester Assay office was closed in 1961.
