Bryon was serving as a midshipman in the 28-gun HMS Wager, a member of Anson's squadron during his voyage round the world, which was wrecked off the coast of Chile in 1740. After suffering years of incredible hardship it was not until some 6 years later that Byron was able to return home. The wreck of the Wager stands next to the Bounty as one of the most powerful stories in the history of the sea. The events surrounding the wrecking of the ship; mutiny, murder, treachery, as well as courage and loyalty, and the long drawn out saga of the survivors, is fully told. The story of Midshipman Byron, future grandfather of the poet, and the wreck of the Wager which foundered on the Pacific coast of Tierra Del Fuego after rounding the Horn. An account of endurance and adventure before they eventually reached England in the ship's longboat. 650g.
