A stunning Antique George III bureau with a beautiful fitted interior, Circa 1780 in date. This magnificent piece is of the finest flame mahogany and has been fully restored to show the beautiful grain of the mahogany. 18th century furniture designer, Thomas Sheraton, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree. There are four large and capacious full width drawers. The interior has four small drawers, a cupboard and pigeon holes, so offers ample storage. Add a touch of unparalleled style to your home. Condition: In fully restored condition, the leather writing surface has been renewed with a fabulous antique finish green hide with gold tooled decoration. Measurements: 109 cm high x 107 cm wide x 53 cm deep
