Item is in used condition as there are chips in the wood in various places due to age, handling, and usage.

ITEM 1509 DESCRIPTION
An African decorative wall hanging attributed to the African Baga People of West Africa. The shape of the head is very elongated with a very high headdress with two horns. There are tribal scarification marks on the face and above the eyes which are bulging slit eyes; the nose is full and protruding; the mouth is full, and there is a beard. The horns on top of the headdress have spaced slanted and incised lines. The grain of the wood is well-patterned and highly polished. The back of the wall hanging appears to have a rough texture. The Baga people are a West African ethnic group who live in the southern swampy lands of the Guinea Atlantic coastline. The Baga people are known for their rich history in arts, particularly with wood and metal which include masks. In 1984, after the death of their leader, the Baga people slowly began reestablishing their traditional culture and animist nature. The Baga art consists of many animal figures, some with human features. UK POSTAGE
