Map of Connaught Ireland by Johan Blaue printed in 1654, this is a very scarce first edition map, later printings had sailing ships drawn in the sea, this copy has a damp or water stain to the bottom of it but it almost adds to the overall antique presence of the map given its great age 1654. The colouring is contemporary. This was purchased by us from "The Macdermot" the present Prince of Connaught Coolavin house Co Sligo, his original lands are marked on the map "MacDermot", he was removed to county Sligo by Oliver Cromwell and this actual map was in the library of his house Coolavin almost certainly since new.
This is a stunning rare piece of history with provenance of ownership & is a fabulous investment item (we purchased the entire library.) Some of it on our website www.vanessaparkerrarebooks.com
