A captivating zircon and ruby cluster ring, unique and stunningly beautiful. The zircon at the heart of this ring has been fashioned into a round mixed cut, showing its fantastic clarity through a large crown facet. The stone sparkles from its grain setting, complemented by the twelve vivid red round mixed-cut rubies that surround it, each one claw set. The claw setting allows more light to these beautiful stones, showing them off beautifully.
Zircon is a beautiful, natural gemstone, not to be confused with cubic zirconia. It is known for its bright lustre, brilliance and strong fire. Victorians had a particular fondness for zircon, which appeared in English jewellery from the 1880s. Its bright flashes of colour and sub-adamantine lustre mean that for many years zircon was used as a diamond alternative, prized for its distinctive sparkle.
The colourful and quirky head of the ring has wide shoulders that taper down into a yellow gold band with a plain, polished finish. Inside the band sits a clear hallmark for 18ct gold by the Assay Office of Chester, an assay office no longer in operation, adding to the historic value of this ring. The date letter 'O' is present, telling us this ring was hallmarked in 1897. A wonderful ring with a pop of colour and a rarely seen but stunning combination of stones.
