mid century large qalamzani tin washed copper pictorial wall tray. isfahan. signed.

This tin washed Qalamzani wall tray is of large size at 19 1/4" in diameter and has been hand carved and engraved by an expert artisan in Isfahan in the mid 40s - 50s. It has a scalloped rim and the central scene depicts a scene of King Khosrow Parvis and Queen Shirin. They are the central figures of the famous 12th century epic mmasterpiece 'Khosrow and Shirin' written by the legendary Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi. Within the epic tale, Shirin is a beautiful Christian princess from Armenia, and Khosrow Parviz is a powerful Sasanian King of Persia. This specific image captures a rare, intimate moment of courtly romance and reconciliation. The tray is signed by the skilled artisan who made it - Reza Pour - Hosseini. All in all a wonderful tray telling a rommantic story.
